The title bar of one of the Algerian daily "Bouteflika lifts state of emergency." The Council of Ministers, chaired by the Head of State, adopted 22 February a draft ordinance repealing a state of emergency. It was introduced in 1992 to fight the Islamist threat. The measure, claimed by the opposition, "shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Journal imminent", said the government.
