EUROPEAN UNION - Immigration: Italy finds himself all alone

"Refugees: Europe Italy blocks", written in a Turin daily. On 9 April, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has again appealed to the European Union to tackle the "human tsunami" of refugees arriving on Italian soil since the fall of Tunisian President Ben Ali in January last. The meeting of European ministers of Interior, April 11, promises to be stormy, while France and Germany are strongly opposed to the Italian decision to grant temporary residence permits to refugees.

The German Interior Minister said during the weekend that Italy would "only address the problem of refugees." For the Italian newspaper, "it is selfishness of the strongest prevails."
