SYRIA - Bloodbath in the town of Dera

"It's the roar of tanks breaking on their city that has awakened the people of Deraa April 25," reports Asharq Al-Awsat. Thousands of troops backed by tanks stormed the city of Deraa to quell the protest against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, born March 15 in the southern city of Syria. Deraa is under siege, communications are cut and people are subjected to gunfire and shelling with heavy artillery that killed more than 37 dead and dozens injured.

Washington announced sanctions against the Syrian government, while several European Union countries require a conviction by the United Nations.
