INDONESIA - The armyworm go on the attack

A hotline has been put at the disposal of the Balinese people so they can report any intrusion of caterpillars in homes, rapporteThe Jakarta Post. For two weeks, thousands of armyworms invaded indeed fields, orchards and residential areas, eating fruits and vegetables. Their hair very volatile cause violent skin irritations and their droppings contaminate wells and waterways.

This problem, first reported in East Java and has since expanded to several regions of the archipelago, is due to the overuse of pesticides that kill birds and other predators of the caterpillars as well as a rate moisture above the seasonal average.
