Since the parliamentary elections of 17 April, three teams arrived in mind - National Coalition Party [Kokoomus, center right], Social Democratic Party and True Finns - are negotiating to form a union gouverment. These discussions have just undergone a new twist with the announcement of the withdrawal of the True Finns.
Quoted by the daily Helsingin Sanomat, the party leader Timo Soini, says his party will remain in opposition. The decision comes after the announcement by Kokoomus (center right) and the Social Democrats of an agreement reached between both parties in supporting the aid package in Portugal.
The True Finns had the boycott of that measure their campaign theme and therefore they refuse to join a government that supports this provision. Their removal requires the entry of minority parties with whom Jyrki Katainen, the future prime minister, will conduct further negotiations.
