A historic victory for the Greens in Germany

The Greens have made headlines by winning the regional elections in Baden-Württemberg, a former stronghold of the Christian Democrats of the CDU. They cause the first change of power since fifty-eight years in this rich industrial Land. The Greens received 24.2% of the vote, their record in Germany all elections combined.

Winfried Kretschmann May 12 became the first president of Green German region, to head a coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
