Spain will have a permanent envoy in Benghazi

Doha .- The Spanish government has agreed to send to the Libyan city of Benghazi, the de facto capital of the opponents of Muammar al-Gaddafi, an 'ambassador' to strengthen the dialogue with the National Transitional Council (CNT). The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trinidad Jimenez, made the announcement to reporters in Doha (Qatar), participating in the Contact Group meeting in Libya to assess the situation in this country.

It is expected that the special envoy in Benghazi, which may not have the rank of ambassador since Spain has established one in Tripoli, joins his post in two weeks, said Jiménez. The diplomat who will assume this function is José Riera, currently special envoy for the Mediterranean.
