The day that the Vatican blessed (by mistake) contraceptive methods

Question .- Can a Christian couple to use contraception? Answer .- Yes, a Christian couple can and should be responsible in its power to give life. That is what we read on page number 227 of the Italian version of YouCat (an acronym for Youth cathechism), the new catechism for young people by the Catholic Church and will be distributed next month in August between the participants in the Day World Youth Day to be held in Madrid.

A phrase that is unleashing rivers of ink as it would represent a historic shift in the moral doctrine of the Church has always condemned all those methods of contraception other than natural attacking equally as much against the condom against the pill or the diaphragm. The Vatican has not actually moved one iota from its traditional position on sexual morality.

What happens is that it has a typographical error in the Italian edition of the booklet, which consists of 299 pages in which a simple and concise language posed 527 questions and answers to them. And that translation error (the YouCat was written originally in German, to be developed under the leadership of the Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn) is what is leading to believe that the Church authorizes Catholic couples to use contraceptive methods in general.

The bug affects the question number 420 of the book. Instead of "Can a Christian couple to use contraception?", Should read: "Can a Christian couple to resort to methods of fertility regulation?". One detail that completely changes the meaning of the response. In fact, the books of YouCat this morning have been distributed to journalists at the Vatican Press Office during the presentation of the book include a note in page 227 which indicates the errata and corrected.

But in bookstores around the Plaza de San Pedro, where for days and selling price YouCat 12.99 euros, the volume does not include this adjustment. Some media claimed that the book had been withdrawn from the bookstores because of this bug. However, the Vatican press office has denied. And indeed, elmundo.

it was found that was on sale at several stores.
