Suicide bombing in Kabul

An officer and three suspected terrorists were killed Monday and seven others wounded in a suicide attack by Taliban insurgents in the Afghan Ministry of Defense in Kabul, said a police source told Efe. The official who is one of the bodyguards of Afghan Deputy Minister of Defense, and among the wounded is the secretary of the Chief of Staff, told Efe the head of the research section of Kabul, Mohammad Zahir, who said the attackers wore uniforms Army.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabiulah Mujahid, told Efe claimed responsibility for the attack, and revealed that his goal was to end the life of the French defense minister, Gerard Longuet, who arrived Sunday on an official visit to Kabul. "Within the ministry had a meeting in which he was the French Minister of Defense and other diplomats," Mujahid maintained.

However, French authorities have estimated that there is "no evidence" to believe that the goal was the defense minister as claimed by the insurgents. The attack was carried out at noon for three terrorists, although two were killed outside the Ministry by the security forces, and only the third managed to detonate the explosive charge he was carrying, and inside the building, said Zahir.

Tolo TV channel confirmed that the bomber entered the premises using a card and a military uniform, although it is unknown whether members of the command entered the armed forces following the normal channels of recruitment. In recent times have been increased reports of infiltration of insurgents in the Afghan armed forces and the Ministry of Defence said it had taken steps to prevent this problem.

Several soldiers from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have died since 2010 shot in clashes against suspected insurgents wearing Afghan army uniforms.
