EDITORIAL - What if it attacked Syria?

In the realm of terror and cruelty, the Syrian regime of Assad and his son is worth that of Colonel Gaddafi. The first lasted from 1970, the second since 1969 ... Both play skillfully divisions of their people in a religious event, the other clan, and are using alternately the carrot of corruption and the stick of repression.

Perhaps, on this ground, the prize goes it to Syria, which the authorities have not hesitated to give the artillery against the people, especially in Hama in 1982 where 20,000 people were massacred. And yet, despite shooting into the crowd last week, there is no question of Security Council resolution in the UN against Damascus and even less for intervention "to protect civilians." Instead, Washington had it - and still has - on Damascus to reach a negotiated peace with Israel.

Moreover, the U.S. ambassador to Syria in recent days passed messages from the White House to urge President Bashar Assad to "moderation"! Similarly, the Elysee Palace after the election of Nicolas Sarkozy, has sought rapprochement with the Syrian regime, despite the murders that he continued to meet or organize in Lebanon ...

So there are indeed two weights and two measures : Western capitals to meet a very strong regime in a country without oil, but geopolitically important. At a time when we close the newspaper, the Syrian government resigned, tens of thousands of people march to support the power and the president must speak on television.

Can he convince the opponents? Probably not. He will reach at least to break the momentum of the revolt? Maybe. At the same time, Westerners are meeting in London to find a political solution to the military intervention in Libya. This operation, now coordinated by NATO, is increasingly frowned upon by non-Western views.

The Hindu newspaper for example, it is further proof of "the threat posed by the three imperial powers (France, United Kingdom and United States) international security." This comment is not India alone. You can find the same positions in Russia or China. Over the last war in Libya, the West will be more pointed to
