NATO denies having attacked the oil field and accuses Gadhafi Sarir

Brussels .- NATO on Thursday denied having attacked the Sarir oilfield, the largest in Libya, and blamed the forces of Muammar Gaddafi for damage in the area. The Alliance reacted to a statement to the Libyan regime's accusations, asserting that the organization's planes had bombed the important enclave.

"We know that pro-Gaddafi forces have attacked this area in recent days, resulting in at least one fire in an oil plant in northern Sarir" he said in the note Canadian Lt. Gen. Charles Bouchard, head of Allied operations from the military base in Naples (Italy). According to Bouchard, try to blame NATO "shows how desperate is the regime." "We have never conducted operations of attack in this area because its forces were threatening the civilian population centers from there," Lieutenant-General stressed.

Según Bouchard, Gaddafi is to sus ataques in Sarir to stop the flow of oil to Tobruk, the controlled port por the rebels since the they have resumed oil exports for the benefit of the rebels. As reported by the insurgents, yesterday sailed from Tobruk the first of these shipments of oil to sell abroad.

The site of the largest Sarir, Libya and located in an area controlled by the opposition, is connected to the export terminal Tobruk-east of Benghazi and therefore away from the battle-line through a pipeline over 400 kilometers.
