Massacre in Rio de Janeiro, a young man murdered 13 children and killed himself in his old school

A 23 year old on Thursday caused a slaughter in his former school in Rio de Janeiro. Armed with two revolvers, Menezes de Oliveira Wellington opened fire inside the municipal school Tasso de Silveira, killed 13 students and ended up committing suicide by being struck by several police officers patrolling the area.

The shooting also left 18 wounded, including children and workers. The former student entered the building, located in the neighborhood of Realengo, in western Rio, under the pretext of giving a lecture. The dead are 12 girls and a boy aged between 12 and 14, besides their assailant, according to the Ministry of Health, Government of Rio. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, most with bullet wounds to the chest and head. Doctors improvised a room also address the parents and relatives.
