Zimbabwe's president says that "the only good imperialist is dead"

The .- Harare Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe said today during the funeral of the governor of Harare that "the only good thing is the imperialist imperialist dead", referring to the white population and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party accusing it of "agent of imperialism." In a long speech, which served to fuel the already high political tension in the country, Mugabe defended his policy of "indigenization" and accused the British targets and that Zimbabweans wanting to "always be their slaves." On Thursday, local media reported that Mugabe supporters exhumed several bodies of people allegedly killed during the British colonial regime led by Ian Smith (1964-1979), which analysts say is an attempt to revive the political intolerance against Western nations, in line with the speech today.

Mugabe, head of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), held power in an authoritarian way since independence from Britain in 1980 until the formation of unity government with the MDC, in February 2009 after intense international pressure. However, the ZANU-PF has maintained control of the armed forces, police, judiciary and public media, according to the MDC, has been used against them.
