Egypt's attorney general on Friday asked the freezing of funds of the defeated President Hosni Mubarak held abroad. Through a formal request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, the prosecutor has called 'freeze' the assets of former president and his family outside the country, the gesture is the first indication that the military government of the country could intend to process the Egyptian.
In a statement the prosecutor ask the Foreign Office to use its diplomatic sources to give effect to the freezing of assets of Mubarak, his wife Suzanne and two sons, Gamal and Alaa, abroad. A legal representative of Mubarak has denied that the former president has a huge fortune deposited outside the country.
"Former President Hosni Mubarak has submitted its latest financial report to the appropriate judicial bodies, just as required by the law," said the representative. Since the popular revolts led to his resignation on February 11, numerous media sources echoed the alleged wealth of the former president, who could be assessed in billions of euros.
Some opposition politicians have called Mubarak prosecuted for wasting assets nationals.
