The king of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, gave carte blanche to Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, to resolve the situation in the country. I know he will take this huge responsibility very seriously and will do everything possible to calm the situation that deserves this divided country.
To do this, however, the prince must demonstrate a profound and honest intentions to succeed. The people had enough of promises and the monarchy has exhausted his patience, especially after the massacre instead of the Pearl. The leaders of various political organizations must also remain true to their motto and demonstrate their leadership in these troubled times.
They must put their differences aside and join forces with the crown prince to come out of this crisis. It is the peace and the future of this country. If my latest information is correct, Sheikh Ali Salman, head of Al Wefaq [party Shiite community, which forms nearly 70% of the population in Bahrain] the main opposition group, and Ebrahim Sharif, leader of the secular Wa'ad, Mahfood and Mohammed of the Islamic Action Society All three agreed to meet immediately with the crown prince to start thinking about a solution [instead of the Pearl in Manama is still occupied by thousands of demonstrators and opposition wants guarantees before calm street and continue the dialogue].
The blood of our martyrs has been shed unnecessarily and others are still missing. There remains a multitude of unanswered questions, some people who have abused their power, must answer for their acts and a series of investigations should be opened. But more importantly, we must launch a national reconciliation efforts and talk about the past to learn from them and move forward.
We have a multitude of topics to discuss with broad implications. We must put an immediate end to violence and to develop a comprehensive program to address issues related to the form of government, constitution and other legislative issues. People are tired of being discriminated against and singled out.
They are tired of allusions and arguments that if one is right, the other is necessarily wrong, if one is more loyal, the other is necessarily a traitor. They are tired of being told they have secret motives and seek advice on the side of Iran or Saudi Arabia, that their allegiance is to X or Y simply because they dare to celebrate the success of another country or another flag waving that of Bahrain to express the joy that inspires them to defeat a common enemy.
We must above all act as citizens of Bahrain and believe in us in spite of all this turmoil. We absolutely must join forces and build this country. We must stop to distrust each other and we obviously work to erase our sectarian differences and others. Our forefathers have lived together peacefully, why can not we do that? We should dig a deep grave and bury forever the sectarianism and the commodification of our citizens.
However, if those two evils would reappear one day, we should have laws severely punishing all forms of discrimination. That's how truly protect the people and country. And while we're at it, also we stop judging each other with a Manichean view, the criterion of "with us or against us".
Do not forget that we are above all citizens of Bahrain and as human beings, solidarity and benefit of the doubt is in our genes. We must restore trust between us. Joining forces to save this beautiful country. For the sake of our children.
