Two people were killed and dozens injured Monday in Ibb, Al Baida and Taiz, south of Sana'a (Yemen's capital), where security forces and the army opened fire and launched tear gas to disperse a demonstration opposite the President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Government forces massively deployed in Taiz, the second largest city in Yemen, 200 kilometers from Sana'a, have intervened to stop the advance of the demonstrators in a suburb southeast, as reported by the demonstrators themselves.
Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis participated in the protest, in which they expressed their displeasure against Saleh and his rejection of the plan for ending the crisis sponsored by the Gulf countries, according to organizers. Security forces closed the main streets of the city with cement blocks, isolating the headquarters of the governor.
Meanwhile, Army's armored vehicles were deployed in the area. A group of protesters ripped portraits of the chief of which found their way as part of the campaign to 'clean the city of photos of the president', found in major squares and public buildings in Taiz. President Saleh had initially accepted the plan of the Gulf countries provided for their departure.
However, at the last moment, the dictator has ensured that only go as they choose, "the polls." At present, there is no set election date. Also, Saleh has called the decision to "blow." "This is a blow. I presionáis from the U.S. and Europe to relinquish power."
