Berlusconi, ready to defend himself in court ... but only on Mondays

The head of the Italian Government, Silvio Berlusconi, implicated in several processes, including one called 'Ruby case', which is charged with child prostitution, said Thursday it is willing to go to defend himself in court Milan, on condition that develop audiences on Monday. Friday resumed tools other processes (called 'case Mills'), Il Cavaliere has announced reforms "that will make time" in the Italian judicial system.

"It is ridiculous to accuse me of not having defended my process. On the contrary, it is a pleasure to be present [in court], now that my lawyers and I did not prevent," said 'Il Cavaliere' during the press conference in which submitted the last reform of justice. "As there are four or five [processes] together, I will devote Sunday and Monday preparing the presence in the courtroom where I think I'll major satisfactions and, above all, explain to Italians how things really are "he continued.

Berlusconi is involved in various processes, especially for tax fraud and falsify accounts (Mediaset), corruption of witnesses (Mills) and child prostitution and abuse of power (Rubygate, the nickname of the young Moroccan Karim El Mahroug, known as Ruby , which accuses the head of government had paid his services when he was not yet 18.

With the exception of Mediaset process (in which the next hearing has been scheduled on April 11, Monday), any other plans to develop a Monday. The head of government, for whom none of these allegations against him baseless, has accused judges of "cruelty." At a time that Berlusconi has resumed its confrontation with the judges, critics fear that judicial reform has just announced that would aim to dominate the country's powerful independent judges.

Il Cavaliere, challenging, said during the hearing that his current legal problems had nothing to do with reform. The plan would introduce a clear separation between the careers of judges and magistrates and transferred to an outside agency powers to impose disciplinary measures against lawyers.

Also accelerate the slow Italian legal system. Judges who make bad decisions may have legal obligations to the citizens injured, similar to medical malpractice lawsuits, said Justice Minister Angelino Alfano. The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), which has often clashed with Berlusconi, is divided into two parts.

The ANM, the main association of magistrates, rejected Berlusconi's accusations that judges "communist" have tried to corrupt the system to destroy him and says that the reforms appeared to limit their autonomy. The center-left opposition has also accused Berlusconi of trying to take revenge on the judges for their legal problems.

"This is a reform triggered by resentment personal and ideological reasons rather than a real need to make them work trials," said Anna Finocchiaro, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party in the Senate. Indeed, on Friday resumed before a Milan court trial against Berlusconi and known as 'case Mills', in which the president is alleged to have paid $ 600,000 to David Mills (formerly his counsel) to change as it affected his testimony in its favor in two lawsuits that he was acquitted.

His defense has already confirmed that the conservative politician will not attend the hearing because they were in the Council of Heads of State and Government of EU. A similar situation is shaping up for this Friday at the Court of Milan was registered on 28 February, when it resumed the process Mediaset, the Berlusconi is accused of tax fraud.

Then the chief minister did not attend the hearing and the judges decided to declare "in absentia".
