Brussels. .- Student groups throughout Belgium have called to start a 'revolution of the chips' to expose the inability of politicians to form a coalition government seven months after the elections and provide various activities to commemorate this Thursday with 249 days, Belgium Iraq snatch world record of the country without government.
Marches and other activities in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven and Louvain la Neuve want to make clear the "glut" of young Belgians by the "political impasse", since the June 13 elections were held early which gave victory to the pro-independence Flemish N-VA Bart de Wever. The national platform 'Pas notre nom jeune / Jong Niet in onze naam' ('Not in our name') coordinate protests, unlike the first demonstration that gathered more than 34,000 Belgians in Brussels on 23 January, have a clear political message against the separation of the country being advocated by some sectors, notably the Dutch community (north).
"We're not for or against a party but against the parties who want to divide the country," said local media one of the organizers of the "revolution of the chips', the president of the Federation Francophone students, Michaeël Verbauwhede. Among the actions planned by the students include concentrations in different campuses and a large demonstration in Brussels, but also the distribution of 300 packets of crisps in Leuven - in honor of the rebellion that has dubbed one of the Belgian dishes - and a striptease in Ghent.
Government in office since June of June, King Albert II has appointed various mediators unsuccessfully trying to bring positions among the seven political parties, the Flemish and Walloons, involved in negotiations for a major overhaul of state, a prerequisite for the formation a new Executive.
Weber himself and the Francophone Socialist leader, Elio di Rupo, no results have assumed this mission. Now is the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Didier Reynders French-speaking Liberal, who tries to unlock a situation that also is hurting the image of Belgium in the markets.
Meanwhile, Belgium has had the EU presidency of the European Union during the second half of 2010 and now his caretaker government, led by Christian Democrat Yves Leterme, is working to take forward the budgets for 2011, also blocked by the situation. Students take into account the time necessary political forces in Iraq for agreement -249 days-but do not rule out more protests on 30 March, 289 days are met without the Executive, because Iraq needed another 40 days to form a government agreed.
