Russia will leave this night without electricity to Belarus for nonpayment

The Russian export monopoly today announced that it suspended from midnight electricity supplies to Belarus and because it has not received from the Belarussian company Belenergo payment for that service.


On day 9, the Russian monopoly fell by almost half the power supplies to Belarus because of accumulated unpaid since February for a total of 1,500 million rubles (about $ 55 million). The supplies were restored to full volume after four days thanks to an agreement on payment schedule. The deadline for payment of second installment due on 20th of this month, but Belenergo requested a week extension, a request that the Russian side agreed.
The electricity exported to Russia, Belarus, between 400 and 500 megawatts, covering 12% of the total needs of this type of Belarussian energy.
