France wants a new UN resolution to achieve its objectives

French Defense Minister, Gerard Longuet, suggested in Paris that would require a new Security Council resolution for UN allies Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to achieve their targets in Libya. Longuet said on French television, as recorded by BBC. com, the leaders call for British, French and Americans to Muammar Gadafiabandone power exceeds the parameters of the current UN resolution, which makes no mention of regime change.

France wants to expand military attacks on key strategic objectives to try to break the stalemate in the war in Libya, while the number of civilian casualties rises. The minister said, however, doubted that a new resolution could be approved soon, because in their opinion the members of the Security Council of the UN as Russia and China may oppose.

Also, this Thursday, the meeting of NATO ministers in Berlin only served to confirm that no country was willing for now to increase its contribution in troops and weaponry. All this despite the fact that France and Britain had made an appeal to raise the level of "military pressure" despite the secretary general of NATO, Rasmussen, admits it will be difficult to achieve the objective that makes the resolution of the UN.

Despite weeks of NATO air strikes and international pressure to give Colonel Gaddafi to power, there are few signs that the Libyan leader is willing to leave his post. For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, said Friday that the NATO military operation in Libya is going beyond the mandate given by the Security Council of the United Nations.
