At least 55 killed in a clash between the army and militias sursudanés

Juba. .- A violent clash between the Army of the future independent state of Southern Sudan and Jonglei group of militants has left at least 55 guerrillas dead and wounded nearly a hundred soldiers and civilians caught in the conflict, according to this dominigo the Information Minister of the state of Upper Nile, Peter Lam Both.

The minister said the death toll could soar when identifying the soldiers and civilians killed. "We have no figures for civilian deaths or the SPLA, but the total must have been much higher," said the minister, who said that up to 34 soldiers and 43 civilians had been admitted to the state capital, Malakal, to be attended by his wounds.

Death of an employee of PAM Today Sunday has also learned of the death of an employee in Jonglei Sudanese World Food Programme (WFP) during an ambush staged by a group of unidentified assailants, according to the UN agency said in a statement. Also this week, in the neighboring state of Unity, the renegade SPLA official, Peter Gadet, reported the start of military operations against the Army sursudanés, in clashes that have left 45 dead, officials said.

These matches take place within weeks of Southern Sudan officially declare its independence from the central government in Khartoum following the landslide victory of "yes" in the referendum of self-determination took place last January. More than 800 people have died from violence in the African country since early this year.
