There are now nearly 7,000 dead in the earthquake in Japan

Tokyo. .- The authorities of Japan rose to 6,911 dead and 10,319 missing in the earthquake and subsequent tsunamidel day 11 in the northeast of the country, according to the latest official count provided today by the police. It is feared that the final number of victims may increase even in some municipalities of the provinces most affected, such as Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, because they do not cease to increase with the passing hours.

This has been the most devastating earthquake in nearly 90 years in Japan, having passed the victims of the earthquake recorded in the January 17, 1995 in the city of Kobe (Japan Center), which caused 7.2-magnitude 6400 dead. So far, the Kobe earthquake was the most serious in recent years in Japan, a country located in the middle of the Pacific Ring of Fire and recorded numerous earthquakes, although most have no serious consequences for the strict building codes in force .

Earlier, on September 1, 1923, known as the Kanto earthquake that occurred in the Tokyo region, where most houses were of wood, caused 140,000 deaths. Some 90,000 soldiers and members of Japanese rescuers, aided by foreign volunteers in rescue specialists, combing the devastated areas for survivors trapped under debris or swept out to sea by the tidal wave of ten meters.

But little by little transport infrastructure are recovering in the affected area making it easier for support teams to help distribute the 380,000 people who remain in the 2,200 shelters put up after the disaster. The earthquake and tsunami of March 11 destroyed 11,991 homes, caused 269 fires and damaged roads 1232 North and east of Japan.
