Military coup against President Yemen

Leading generals had been in Yemen against President Ali Abdullah Salih, and thus initiated a military coup. On Monday, Major General Ali Muhsin al Ahmar, a half brother of the president and commander of the important First Division, said his troops now protect the demonstrators against the attacks of the units to the President.

He knew the emotions of the officers and therefore support the revolution of youth, he said. He joined the commander of three regions of the country and a general of the General Staff. One of them, Ali Muhsin Muhammad is also related to Saleh.

However, it is impossible to tell whether Ali Muhsin al Ahmar, he should prevail against Salih, agree with, like the Egyptian army in the establishment of a transitional government and a transition to a democratic order is chosen. Possibly the Salih regime that has lost its legitimacy, replaced only by a regime under the hardline al Ahmar, whose objectives are not clear.

Ali Muhsin al Ahmar is as corrupt with close ties to the tribes and with contacts to Al Qaeda. He therefore does not correspond to expectations, the protesting youth to a man of the future. On that Sunday evening Salih had tried to dismiss his entire Cabinet, a coup, but the effect fell flat.

Salih was not prepared to take responsibility for the massacre last Friday in which 52 demonstrators were killed. Also on Monday as a result of the incident were the resignations. At least seven other Yemeni Ambassador, including in Saudi Arabia, the Consul General in Dubai, and the governor of the province of Aden came back from their posts.

Salih said to have declared, according to a spokesman, he is preparing is now preparing for a military confrontation. Hakim al Masmari, the editor of the newspaper "Yemen Post, Al Jazeera Channel sagtedem, 60 percent of the Army has followed Ali Muhsin, and the number is increasing steadily.

Salih for the game was so out. Two scenarios will be held in Yemen to be possible. Should the commanders to Ali Muhsin Salih al Ahmar some with President on a voluntary withdrawal of the President to find a peaceful solution was possible. Is not excluded, however, that the elements of the army, stand against Saleh, will deliver the Republican Guards and other elite units to Saleh a bloody battle.

At the top of the Republican Guard, the President's son Ahmad Ali Abdullah Salih, even rumored to be cast on the highest public office and has long been a rival of Ali Muhsin al Ahmar. The Shiite-Houthi rebels in northern Yemen on Monday exploited the weakness of state authority and achieved a position of the army in Jawf province, were deployed in the tanks.

At least 20 people have been killed. The rebels claimed to have it shot down a training aircraft that attacked the barracks had been called in to help.
