U.S., France, UK and Canada turns its back on Gaddafi

Washington .- The United States imposed sanctions on the Libyan government yesterday and said that the legitimacy of leader Muammar Gaddafi has been "reduced to zero." In response to the bloody repression of the Libyan leader to revolt against his government, President Barack Obama signed an executive order freezing the assets of Qadhafi, his family and officials, as well as the Libyan Government, the central bank and the country SWFs.

"These penalties, therefore, point to the Gaddafi government, while protecting the assets that belong to the people of Libya," Obama said in a statement. "By any criterion, the government of Moammar Gadhafi has violated international norms and common decency and must be held accountable," he added.

Washington announced the sanctions, together with the closure of its embassy and withdraw its diplomats, after especially hired a ferry and a plane carrying Americans and other evacuees left Libya on Thursday. Furthermore, Hillary Clinton announced that it has revoked the visas of entry to the country of Libyan government officials and their families "to limit travel options" for members of the regime.
