Dublin, February 26 .- The leader of the conservative Fine Gael, Enda Kenny, winner of the Irish general election, said today that the European Union (EU) has to "listen" to the electorate and recognize that the terms of the bailout in this country are "bad for Ireland and for Europe." Speaking on Radio Television Ireland (RTE), the next prime minister announced that initiate contact with their community partners the next week to try to renegotiate parts of the agreement signed last December with the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In his view, the future government will have "some leeway" to modify the interest rates to be paid by Ireland to repay the loan offered to the rescue, valued at 85,000 million euros. "Europe must take the message of our electorate and recognize that we want to respect the agreement, but we have problems to solve," said Kenny, who made clear he was not referring to the possibility that his Government was declared in "suspension of payments.
" "What we seek, he said, is the support of our partners. The deal is bad for Ireland and for Europe, but not written in stone, the talks will aim to improve it." When you are awarded 56 of the 166 seats at stake, the FG get 25 members, followed by the Labour Party (15), Sinn Féin (5), the ruling Fianna Fáil (4) and independent candidates and minor parties (6) .
Kenny said that has not yet decided whether the Executive will form a coalition with Labour or whether, instead, will choose to govern with a small group of independents, because, he said, still have to wait for the final results. Held, however, that his party has become the largest force of the Irish Parliament (Dáil) from the foundation in 1932 the party.
"This has been a democratic revolution at the polls. People want a strong Government and you can trust, I want to restore our credibility both at home and abroad. The message to the international level is that Ireland is open for business" , said Kenny.
