Several people arrested after the Minsk subway attack

A dozen people were arrested Tuesday in Belarus for the attack on the subway in Minsk, Belarus capital, this morning. After the attack, in which 12 people died, 149 injured include 22 of them are serious. "We are already investigating several people who have been arrested," said Andrei Shved, deputy prosecutor and head of the task force investigating the blast occurred at rush hour in the central station "Oktiábraskaya." Shved denied that the explosion had been caused by a "suicide bomber" and stressed that the power of the bomb was equivalent to not less than 3 kilos of TNT.

"For the first time we ran into this terrorist phenomenon. In all probability it was a radio-activated device. The pump took shrapnel as steel balls, pieces of metal and nails," he said. Shved also stressed that, so far, nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, but noted that "the objective is clear: instability in the country." As for those killed in the attack, Shved explained that "once died instantly and another died in hospital, while 151 people are still admitted in hospitals in Minsk, 40 in serious condition and 58 of medium severity.

Assistant U.S. Attorney announced that the composites of two suspects of having perpetrated the attack will be distributed among the population. The station "Oktiabraskaya" is one of the busiest in Minsk, as it links the official buildings and the headquarters of the leading industrial city neighborhoods bedroom.

"There may have been able to bring us this 'gift' from the outside. But we must look inside. The guilty must be found," said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko yesterday after visiting the bomb site. The Belarusian leader, considered the last dictator in Europe, called to unmask whom is "throwing ground tranquility and stability of the country."
