Netanyahu proposes a withdrawal from West Bank

"Tsunami diplomat." Is a term increasingly used by media and some ministers of Israel warning to what awaits the country in September: the recognition of a Palestinian state on '67 borders by the UN General Assembly. To stop the tsunami, the head of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu, studies yield to Palestinian Authority security control of the West Bank.

It is unclear the extent of the withdrawal but is one of the main measures that arises, as revealed on Tuesday the newspaper Haaretz. Another possibility would be to hold an international summit, with the participation of Israelis and Palestinians to relaunch the peace process. Netanyahu is aware that the Palestinian President Abu Mazen, is not willing to sit down and negotiate for several reasons.

First, the Palestinian leader waiting quietly in September to collect the fruits of their diplomatic campaign. Secondly, because Abu Mazen complains that Netanyahu does not announce a moratorium on new settlements and not willing to negotiate seriously the most contentious issues. Hence, Bibi (Netanyahu) seek other ways to avoid "diplomatic disaster" September.

A recognition of the General Assembly would be symbolic but very powerful. Netanyahu is also pressed by the so-called Israeli Peace Initiative, presented a few days ago by important figures such as former heads of secret services, the military, intellectuals and businessmen. Netanyahu complained Monday in Jerusalem to the ambassadors of EU countries that the Palestinians "who are only ten minutes from here consistently refuse to negotiate." Asked about his future speech in which he would announce measures on the peace process, Netanyahu replied: "I have not decided when and what to say but there are two key issues.

If possible return to negotiations and what measures should be taken if confirms that the resumption of the peace process is impossible. " As often happens in Israel, the very sources close to the prime minister who would have leaked his West Bank withdrawal plan will recognize that success.

"These are tactical solutions to strategic problems." Notably, the newspaper said the measure would not include the evacuation of settlements. Some of the areas B (in which there dede Israeli security control and civilian ANP) would be totally under the Palestinian Authority. In Ramallah, the capital of the West Bank, no illusions.

"Netanyahu has to order the end of construction in illegal settlements. After really say if it is willing to negotiate on the division of Jerusalem and the borders of 67. Do not accept anything less than this, "said a Palestinian official close to the Muqata.
