Portuguese opposition calls on the President to call elections as soon as possible

All matches in Portugal defend the conduct of early elections as soon as possible to resolve the open political crisis following the resignation of Prime Minister luso, José Socrates, after the full Parliament on Wednesday rejected the fourth Plan Stability and Growth Pact (SGP IV .) So it was told on Friday the President of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva, who spent the day in contact with all parties represented in parliament.

The only thing that differs from the left of the right is the proposed date for the holding of elections. While the Social Democrats opt for the May 29 Communist Left Bloc and the Greens prefer on 5 June. For now, the president has not ruled Luso, "has not yet officially accepted the resignation of Socrates, and will not meet until the following Monday, the president of Parliament, the Socialist Jaime Gama, a usual procedure in these cases, and also is to convene the Council of State before proceeding with the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic.

For its part, the leader of the main opposition party, Pedro Passos Coelho, believes that if Portugal has to stop using European aid and the International Monetary Fund will get, at least "pay less interest than you pay now for their public debt, which he says has happened in Ireland and Greece.

" In a television interview lusa SIC, on Friday night, after returning from Brussels European Council, Passos Coelho coincided with the socialist executive still that Portugal can not dodge the help. Still, if the bailout is just producing it will be because, as the social, "Portugal are not able to meet its commitments." In that case, the conservative believes that the government will have to be Socrates, while in office, asking for help.

For now, despite acknowledging that this political crisis weakens the country's image, the outgoing prime minister insists that Portugal will not be rescued. Brussels has given a new room for the Portuguese, provided that the major parties agree and approve early elections before a new adjustment plan will be more demanding than the PEC IV has failed to implement.
