Portugal welcomes Gaddafi's envoys on behalf of the EU

An emissary of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi has been received today by the Foreign Minister of Portugal, Luis Amado. The envoy, who traveled to Lisbon after a brief stopover in Malta, where he met with members of the Government of La Valetta, met with Amado after it received the approval and support of the chief diplomat of the European Union Catherine Ashton.

Although initially there was confusion about the interest of the Libyan envoy to meet with political luso, then it was suggested that the representative of Gaddafi had gone to Lisbon for talks with Portugal on the basis of the country's position as chairman of the Sanctions Committee UN to North African country.

The ministry said in a statement that the interview with the envoy, who did not identify, was designed to elicit information about the situation in Libya. Emissaries of the regime of Colonel Qaddafi also fly to Brussels to meet with representatives of the European Union and NATO, has revealed the Italian foreign minister, Franco Frattini, on Wednesday.

Frattini has revealed the existence of travel of the Libyan delegation during a meeting of a parliamentary commission in Rome, where he also mentioned that representatives of the Libyan dictator has been directed to Cairo, where they try to meet with the Egyptian authorities. "Two planes belonging to the Libyan regime is directed to Brussels with the intention of facilitating a meeting between Gaddafi and diplomatic envoys of EU and NATO" on Thursday and Friday, said the minister.

Frattini said that the visits to Cairo and Brussels suggest that the situation of the scheme is "fluid" and requested that no action will be taken "premature." "Not to be spoken in Cairo, nor who will meet in Brussels, but these movements are very significant."
