Chavez and Fidel Castro in apparent good health

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez and Cuban leader Fidel Castro are in apparent good health, according to a videotape aired tonight by the state broadcaster VTV. The images were taken "this morning," said Venezuelan Minister of Communication and Information Andres Izarra, and they both appear with sports clothing in a garden, chatting and reading today's edition of the official daily Granma.

Venezuelan President remains convalescing since last June 10 in Havana, where he underwent emergency pelvic abscess. The video was released after a Miami newspaper indicated that U.S. intelligence sources assured the newspaper that Chavez "is in a critical state, not serious, but critical," which was denied by various Venezuelan officials.

The Venezuelan government has given no details about the condition of the president, who underwent emergency surgery in Havana at the end of a tour that had previously led by Brazil and Ecuador, which had previously suspended for a bleeding of fluid in his left knee.
