Israel is put on high alert in the day's celebration of the Palestinian Nakba

Jerusalem .- The police, army and other security forces of Israel, on Sunday raised the alert level of the conclusion by the Palestinians in the Nakba (Catastrophe), which commemorates the expulsion and dispossession of Palestinians with the creation in 1948 the State of Israel. Expected marches, conferences and other events both in Israel and the Palestinian territories (where the security forces are also on alert), and in neighboring countries like Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan.

The Israeli army has ordered the closure of border crossings with the West Bank from midnight yesterday until this Sunday. Palestinians who have permits to work or study in Israel on Sunday not pass through the checkpoints, in which only allow passage for people who need urgent medical attention, aid workers and journalists.

There will be mass demonstrations in the West Bank, among others, in the cities of Ramallah, Hebron, Nablus and Bethlehem, according to the Ynet news service. At noon, a siren will sound for 63 seconds to remember the years that have elapsed since the creation of the Jewish state. There will be rallies in the Gaza Strip, the main in the town of Beit Hanoun, northern territory, and Rafah, on the border with Egypt.

This is the first occasion that marks the Nakba in Israel after the approval of the so-called "law of the Nakba", which prohibits this occasion to commemorate the country's public institutions such as councils of Arab towns and villages and schools under threat losing public funding. For this reason it is expected to have fewer events and demonstrations held in other years in the Galilee and elsewhere in Israel with a majority Arab population.
