Iran arrests and imprisons the main opposition leaders and their wives

Tehran. .- The Attorney General of Iran's judiciary spokesman, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, confirmed today that police have isolated the opposition leaders and reformist Mehdi Mir Hussein Mousavi Karroubi, respectively. Was quoted by state news agency Irna, the cleric also warned the population that the security forces will act against those who go in the coming days to the streets to protest.

"The first step has been taken. Has blocked their relationships, whether personal or telephone," he said before warning that if necessary, will take another series of coercive measures. Neteler Saturday, the organization International Campaign for the Defence of Human Rights in Iran denounced Karroubi and another opposition leader, Mir Hussein Moussavi, were taken to a Revolutionary Guard barracks on the outskirts of Tehran after more than fifteen days incommunicado and blocked by police at their homes.

Given this situation, the Iranian opposition the same day urged people to take up again the country's streets on Tuesday to demand the release of both .-------- The announcement was made amid continuing rumors the whereabouts and health status of the two former candidates, harassed by the regime in June 2009 branded fraudulent re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Their houses were taken by the secret police and other security forces in early February, after both urge people to take up the protests on 14 February. Dozens of officers were stationed in front of the two buildings, cut phone lines, and has since placed barriers impeding access to the area to all relatives, including his children.

Still, web pages repeated the call for the protest on February 20, manifestations such as Valentine's Day were violently suppressed by security forces. A mid-week, several websites reported that Mousavi had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack, news that has not been confirmed or denied.

On Sunday, former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami called for the release of their colleagues in a speech to a group of professors of religion, called by its own website. The former chief minister between 1997 and 2005 also recalled that both have been prominent figures of the Islamic Revolution and therefore does not deserve such treatment.

"Why do people like Mousavi and Karroubi and their wives, who have been glories religion and the Islamic Republic and are loyal to them, have been placed under house arrest?, Khatami said in his own. ir "Such actions embolden those who oppose the regime and not worry about Iran. ... and help you handle the feelings of young people, "he added.

Khatami said, also hope that this ends before the start of Persian new year, which begins March 21. The Iranian regime accused both leaders opponents of treason, sedition and conspiracy with foreign forces.
