The Gadhafi regime's forces bombarded Misrata

Cairo. The bombardment by the forces of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi on the town of Misrata, the main stronghold of the rebels in the west of Libya, has caused at least five dead and more than 20 wounded, officials said opposition to Al Jazeera. "At about two o'clock there was a loud explosion in Misrata," said rebel spokesman in the city, Abdel Basset Mezerik, the Qatari television network.

"Five people were killed and 20 injured due to indiscriminate attack Gaddafi's forces," he added. Shortly before, another rebel spokesman told Reuters that loyalist forces had shot Gadhafi Russian-made Grad rockets against Misrata. Misrata is the only city in western Libya and controlled by the rebels for weeks is subject to intense attack by forces loyal to the regime in order to recover.

The siege has caused a humanitarian crisis in the city, in the absence of supplies of all kinds.
