GEORGIA - a gesture towards one million poor families

Given the continued rise of prices of food and basic necessities, and bottom 12% inflation, the Georgian government has decided to release an exceptional aid for one million Georgian families (a population Total under 5 million). Each family will receive a coupon of 30 laris (13 euros) for the purchase of food, and a coupon of 20 laris (8 euros) to settle their electricity bills.

Moreover, the pension will increase from 100 lari (43 euros) to 110 laris (48 euros) in the capital, Tbilisi, and 80 lari (35 euros) to 100 lari in the provinces. This emergency assistance costs 70 million lari (32 million) national budget. "Criticisms mount against these measures, experts say, could eventually increase inflation," says the Georgian news site Civil Georgia.
