Obama will deliver a speech on Libya on Monday

U.S. President Barack Obama will deliver a speech on Monday to explain the current situation in Libya and the United States policy in the future, informed the White House. In a brief statement, the White House announced that the speech will be held at 19.30, when the east coast (2330 GMT) at the National Defense University in Washington DC.

Obama "will update Americans about the situation on Libya, including the actions we have been taking with allies and partners to protect people from the brutality of Libyan Muammar Gaddafi." The president will also talk about the transition of command of NATO and coalition politics that will carry the United States.

The president spoke this afternoon with congressional leaders to explain the scope of U.S. military operations in Libya. Several congressional leaders have criticized what they see as the lack of consultation from the White House with the legislative attacks on U.S. military and its allies in Libya, which began last Saturday.

On Thursday, U.S. officials and NATO reported that the transatlantic organization will take over military operations in Libya, including an arms embargo, the air exclusion zone and the protection of civilians.
