According to a study published March 16 by the British medical journal The Lancet, 779,000 people could be affected by cholera this year in Haiti. "The current global estimates of the epidemic are based on the assumption that the epidemic will reach 4% of the population, but it is essentially a guess," says the study by an American team.
Among these cases of cholera, 11,000 deaths could be between 1 March and 30 November 2011. Since the end of October 2010, the Haitian authorities are facing an epidemic of cholera which has already killed more than 4,000 dead.
