Sydney (Australia) .- The Government of New Zealand today denounced the illegal fishing activities carried out by North Korean ships in the Antarctic marine reserves. The complaint was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murray MacCully after reconnaissance planes sighted New Zealand Air Force two North Korean fishing boats in a protected area by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Living Resources.
"The detection of these vessels illegal, unregistered and unlicensed, in the southern ocean is a matter of great concern to New Zealand," the foreign minister said in a statement. In the official note states that the North Korean ships were caught in the area before, but in his latest foray into the subject had changed their names.
In addition to veto fisheries, Antarctica commission, composed of 25 countries, prohibits the mooring of vessels fishing illegally, and the purchase of the catches that carry in their warehouses.
