BOLIVIA - Access to the Pacific before international tribunals

All March 23, Bolivians commemorate the solemn Day of the Sea in remembrance of the loss of the department of coastline and therefore their access to the sea at the end of the "Pacific War" which had opposed in Chile between 1879 and 1883. And as he acknowledged the failure of implicit negotiations with Santiago on the issue in 2006, Evo Morales announced on 23 March that the country would lodge a complaint before international tribunals, reported the daily La Razón.

The Bolivian claim lasts for one hundred thirty-two years. The Bolivian president said that international justice has made sufficient progress so that "states can file complaints that correspond to their rights." He meant in particular denounced the peace treaty of 1904 "signed under pressure from Chile and strength."
