DENMARK - Severe failures in the integration

The Danish Liberal-Conservative government has made repeated mistakes in its handling of applications for naturalization of stateless youth. The Ministry of Immigrant Absorption has indeed consistently rejected these demands, in violation of several UN conventions. The explanations on this issue this week by the Minister of Immigrant Absorption have raised as many questions they answered.

His report acknowledges that there was "manifest errors" that "can only regret", and it is also "very regrettable" that the Folketing [the Danish Parliament] do not have informed "much earlier". It does point, however, no charge. This left little alternative to Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Liberal Party) to dismiss as the "Minister of exclusion" Birthe Rønn Hornbech (Liberal Party) and to establish a commission of inquiry.

Because the record does not give any answer to these two key questions: who is responsible for this practice continues since 2004 against the conventions, which successive ministers gave the order to reaffirm these specific releases abusive, contrary legal effect to the recommendations? Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen Løkke only mitigating circumstance for not trying to hide something.

Instead, during his press conference on March 8, he stated that the mandate of the investigators would be comprehensive enough that all issues can be resolved. That's the least we can do. The inquiry must focus on at least three questions. What was the responsibility of Ministers of the successive integration in the establishment of this practice of denial of applications for naturalization, and his subsequent concealment? What was the responsibility of senior officials in the establishment of this practice contrary to the conventions on the one hand, in his late revelation of the other? Finally, the extent to which prime ministers concerned were they aware of and what is their responsibility? If the investigation does not give clear answers to these questions, the doubt will be even stronger.

It is also good that the answers are given before the parliamentary elections this fall (no later than November 12), so that voters have the opportunity to decide for themselves an irrevocable sentence on the policy of Immigration coalition formed by the Liberals, Conservatives and Danish People's Party [far right].
