"How to stop piracy around the Horn of Africa?" Asks the Danish daily Politiken. The question recurs in Denmark: AP Moller-Maersk, the largest company in the kingdom and one of the first shipping companies worldwide, it is often faced. In addition, it is now two weeks is a Danish family owned by a group of pirates.
But it is not enough, says the newspaper, send troops to destroy pirate bases or create prisons on the beaches to lock up pirates arrested. It would be more welcome, says the editorial, to help them earn a living another way. And to begin to end the theft of fish by fishermen in Western and Asian African waters - which would represent up to one billion U.S.
dollars annually. As African societies will lose their source of income naturally, it is not possible to stop the pirates, says Politiken: "Somalia is a failed state that needs our help."
