Clinton: no-fly zone should be an international decision, not U.S.

Washington. . - Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton said Monday that to establish an air exclusion zone in Libya, as required by the North African country's opposition, the decision must be made by the international community, not the U.S., according to statements issued on Tuesday. Clinton, in an interview with a British broadcaster, said that the idea of \u200b\u200bestablishing an exclusion zone comes from the Libyan population, not a foreign power.

That is very important, he said. Clinton's remarks occur within hours after the U.S. president, Barack Obama, debated the possible establishment of the exclusion zone with British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in a telephone interview. Clinton stressed that his government would like to see Gaddafi leaves the power "peacefully." "But if that is not possible, we will work with the international community," he added.

As for the support he would count as the Arab world, Secretary of State mentioned that the Gulf countries would support the decision, while the Arab League opposes the measure. The Libyan national council comprising representatives of the cities "liberated" the east, urged the international community to establish a flight ban on Libyan airspace.

At the initiative of Paris and London, the Security Council today discussed this possibility, but Russia so far reluctant to take military action in the North African country. The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), meanwhile, showed on Tuesday its support for the eventual decision.

Domestically, Obama is criticized for what some believe are not sufficiently stringent measures against the regime of Gaddafi. Asked in the interview today with Secretary of State whether he would agree to lift the embargo on Libya that rebels have access to guns, Clinton said: "It's hard in the middle of this civil conflict come to know how to do something like because at the moment it is unclear how much of the country really is under rebel control.
