Madrid .- Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his family have been placed under house arrest, as reported by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which ruled the country since the President submitted his resignation on 11 February after weeks of demonstrations mass against him. With his statement, which echoes Ahram newspaper in its online edition, the Army aims to end the rumors suggesting that the president and his family had moved to Saudi Arabia.
After his resignation, Mubarak had moved with his family at his residence in Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea. Moreover, the Supreme Council of the Army announced Monday that parliamentary elections be held next September before the same shall arise a state of emergency in force since 1981 after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat.
"We said before the parliamentary or presidential elections would not take place while the emergency law in effect," he stated at a press conference Mamdouh Shaheen, a member of the Supreme Council, quoted by Reuters.
